Teachers at Battlefield
Middle are working together to help students improve their use
of correct vocabulary using application software. We noticed students
often know what to do with computers, but do not know what to call
what they are doing. Three teachers (Librarian Jackie Keith, Math/Technology
Teacher Jodi Moore, and Computer Concepts Teacher Kim Sullivan)
are sponsoring a technology Word of the Week. Each week a work or
phrase is selected. Principal Theresa Redd or Asst. Principal Ed
Browder reads the definition during morning announcements. Booksmarks
with more details about the WoW are created and made available in
the library. Teachers in the classrooms reinforce the WoW and a
quiz and a contest will be held after every ten terms. The homeroom
with the highest percentage of correct answers will earn ice cream
at lunch. Our students enjoy the bookmarks and we think this program
will lead to more effective use of software and even higher technology
SOL scores.
