Time: 1 week

Objective:
Students will design a slide about themselves for a multimedia presentation.

Purpose:
The purpose is to strengthen skills in basic word processing and visual perception; to use graphics in the form of digital photography, canned images or drawn freestyle; to introduce technology that facilitates a public presentation; and to introduce students to the concept of multimedia communication.

Materials:
HyperStudio
PowerPoint
KidPix Studio
Computer
Digital Camera
Scanner.

Procedure:
1. Have students bring in a picture of themselves to scan or use the digital camera and take pictures of your students. You may also elect to have students draw freestyle on the computer using KidPix, Microsoft Paint or similar software. Save each students picture in a folder on your computer or to a floppy disk.

2. Working one student at a time, open the multimedia application and have them pull in their picture to a slide from the folder of disk. Have students write a paragraph about themselves. They can design backgrounds, add clipart, sound, video or animation depending on the level of students and software capabilities. Save and title your presentation and be sure to save each slide as you go.

3. Once all students have created and designed their own slide, organize and fine tune your multimedia presentation. You may also want to jazz it up a bit with transition effects.

4. Gather round and present your class biography. Have students stand up and present themselves orally when their slide appears. Students, teachers, and parents will enjoy the show!
